Our Specialities

  • Hip Replacement

We treat a variety of hip conditions such as arthritis, inflammatory conditions, and hip fractures to name a few. For arthritis we use nonoperative treatment early in the process such as anti-inflammatories, weight loss, walking aids, exercise, and injections.

  • Knee Replacement

We treat multiple disorders of the knee including sports injuries, arthritis, inflammatory conditions and fractures. Our physicians also treat a variety of sports knee injuries using non-operative modalities and operative techniques when necessary.

  • Shoulder Replacement

We treat multiple disorders of the shoulder including rotator cuff disorders, labral tears, arthritis, inflammatory conditions and fractures. Rotator cuff disorders include a spectrum of disease ranging from tendonitis and impingement to partial or full thickness cuff tears.

  • Reverse Total Shoulder Replacement

We specialize in reverse total shoulder replacement, a cutting-edge procedure designed for individuals who suffer from severe shoulder arthritis with coexisting rotator cuff tears. This innovative surgical approach not only alleviates pain but also restores function and mobility to those who previously had limited options for relief.

  • Trauma & Fractures

We take care of most traumatic injuries involving broken bones and torn ligaments. These injuries can sometimes be life-changing events. Our goal is to treat your injury as indicated so that you may resume your prior activity level.

  • Hand & Upper Extremity

Injuries to the upper extremity are very common, and we see them every day in our clinics at Arkansas Bone and Joint. These injuries can occur as the result of a fall or acute injury, but often they present as a chronic, overuse injury.

  • Foot & Ankle Care

Various problems can occur with the foot and ankle, and such problems can really hamper mobility. Degenerative tendon issues, arthritis, nerve entrapment, or deformities such as bunions and hammertoes can limit the ability to walk, exercise, or even wear shoes comfortably.

  • Sports Medicine

Sports are definitely a big part of our life here in Central Arkansas. Whether we’re playing or watching, we all enjoy the competition and excitement. However, sports-related injuries often occur and can rob athletes of the sport they enjoy.

  • Physical Therapy

Arkansas Bone and Joint offers onsite state-of-the-art physical and occupational therapy services, where one-on-one client-centered care is our primary focus. In collaboration with each client, our main goal is to personalize the treatment plan to restore our patients to their prior level of function.

Our Providers

  • DR. JERRY LORIO

    ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON

Dr. Jerry Lorio was born and raised in Louisiana, “The Sportsman Paradise,” where he developed a love for the great outdoors. He graduated from Holy Savior Menard High School in Alexandria, Louisiana in 1985. He then attended Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, and received his medical degree from LSU School of Medicine in 1993. Orthopedic residency training was earned from UAMS, finishing in 1998 under the leadership of Dr. Carl Nelson as the Orthopedic Surgery Chairman. In 2002 he received the “Selakovich Award”, a UAMS faculty award for teaching his total joint replacement surgery techniques to UAMS orthopedic residents.

Dr. Lorio splits his time between Arkansas Surgical Hospital and Saline Memorial Hospital. He has a balanced practice in joint reconstructive surgery and general orthopedic surgery, and has passed his Board Certification in both of these areas of interest.

His professional passion is in the field of patient specific knee replacement. He has designed a series of techniques and instrumentation to optimize balancing, alignment and rotation using conventional implants. He believes every knee has a unique design, and a knee replacement should model that design. Each patient is provided with a custom knee replacement based on their size, rotation, alignment and deformity, since implementing this system in 2008, he has seen improved outcomes in motion, stability, return to function, and patient satisfaction. He has received a US patent for his “knee balancing instrument”. Some of his techniques and instruments have been acquired by a major medical device maker. He also is now performing anterior (ASI) hip replacement surgery which allows the patient to begin walking with all their weight on the day of surgery. Dr. Lorio is also performing anatomic total shoulder replacement and reverse total shoulder replacement surgery.

He treats patients in a way he would want a member of his family treated and recognizes that it is a team effort among patient, physician, and the hospital: with open lines of communication to achieve the optimal result. He does not participate in the Little Rock Medical Exchange and therefore invites his Arkansas Surgical Hospital postoperative patients to call him directly. He is married to Allison Lorio, a part-time anesthesiologist. They enjoy the challenge of raising their four children. They are members of Fellowship Bible Church. His hobbies are hunting, fishing, golfing and running.
